The Puffin Crossing (Pedestrian User-Friendly Intelligent crossings) differ from Pelican Crossings in that there is no flashing green figure phase. On Puffin Crossings the red and green figures are above the control box on your side of the road. You press the button and wait for the green figure to show.
The new 'smart' systems also uses heat sensors to tell if pedestrians are waiting on the pavement, and can even override the red light shown to drivers if they've already got to the other side this reduces delays to motor vehicles, and improved crossing conditions for elderly and disabled persons by automatically varying the crossing times.

The Toucan Crossing (two can cross) is for bicycles and pedestrians. These lights again have no flashing amber phase.
The Pegasus Crossing has a high and low level push to cross button and is used for Horses to cross roads where traffic is crossing a race course or horse training ground.
